Microtransit is Expensive
Transit providers are under pressure to serve the most people with limited resources.
But transit today leaves providers stuck between two bad options:
Fixed Route (Bus, Rail)
Microtransit
Modal changes that:
Multimodal
Multimodal uses shuttles only for the first and last mile, connecting riders to high-capacity, cost-efficient buses for the majority of their trip.
Multimodal isn't new, but our optimization is.
Our Story: 8 Years of Research with Transit Agencies
Modal was born from 8 years of cutting-edge research at Georgia Tech and the University of Michigan to solve a single problem: how to make on-demand transit affordable for transit agencies. Together with agency experts, our researchers developed the algorithms and optimization techniques that power modern on-demand transit.
This wasn't just conceptual - across $5M in pilots, we worked side-by-side with transit professionals to learn, improve, and test our technology in real communities. These partnerships inspired us to found Modal, to bring affordable on-demand to every city.
